Capital One Cup Draw

Hello and welcome to Buzzin’ League 1 Football, a new blog focussing on nPower League One.

For the past five years, our team has been involved with Buzzin’ Championship Football which – as the name suggests – covers the nPower Championship. However, we decided that there was a gap in the market when it came to League One blogs and so we decided to expand our coverage of the nPower Football League.

The draw for the first round of the 2013/14 Capital One Cup was made earlier today and although none of the Championship clubs were drawn together, it was a different matter for League One sides. Bristol City and Peterborough – who were both relegated at the end of last season – have to travel to Gillingham and Colchester respectively, whilst Leyton Orient take on Coventry and newly promoted Port Vale entertain Walsall.

There’s plenty of scope for League One teams to either be giant killers or surprise victims: there are seven ties between League One sides and Championship teams and in six of those seven games a League One outfit is at home. Bolton – who almost reached the Championship playoffs – travel to Shrewsbury, whilst Oldham entertain Derby.

Of the eight games between League One and League Two sides, Milton Keynes Dons may have the toughest trip when they make the short journey to Northampton Town, but the eye catcher is Wolves trip to Morecambe. Two seasons ago these teams were at opposite ends of the league, but having suffered consecutive relegations, Wolves have to start off in the first round of the competition.

The games will take place during the week beginning 5th August – I’ll be back on Wednesday with the first league games of the season.
